Day 1-Travel Day

I'm a rookie.  I'm pretty slow.  I'm often one of the last ones to know the latest fads.  As I contemplated my final United States meal for the next 10 days, I settled on Five Guys.  Nothing like a cheeseburger and fries before leaving the states.

"One cheeseburger all the way and a little fry," I said confidently even though I'm always nervous ordering at a restaurant that I've never been to.  That's right, this was my first time at Five Guys.

"One patty or two?" the cashier replied.

It was at this point in time that I would have liked to call a Zack Morris timeout and ask the audience if the answer is ever "one."  Given a choice between one good thing and two good things, why would I pick one?  I was dumbfounded.

But, I had to order and there was a line of people behind me.  I faked confidence and answered "Two, of course."

Typical American.

From RDU we flew to Dulles where we boarded Turkish Airlines.  It was a big plane with 2 seats on each aisle and 4 in the middle.  Of course, I had a middle seat.  I had a middle seat to and from Israel and sitting between people on a 10-12 hour plane ride is not ideal.  However, two of the four seats were empty so I obtained five pillows and two blankets and concocted a make shift cot and slept about 6 hours in between two movies.

We landed in Turkey but did not leave the airport and after about a two hour layover, we flew to Thessaloniki, Greece.  Thessaloniki is a very large city and the main roads were clean and a lot of people were out and about.  I noticed most of the restaurants were open air and had outdoor seating.  I didn't see a Five Guys.

Total time from RDU to my twin bed was about 24 hours.  I did get 2 pillows though.  Found an extra in the closet.  Typical American.
